Last Day of Write Alaska/Slideshow

Well, Write Alaska 2012 has now come to a close. There's still some summertime left for everyone to enjoy. Despite the fact that we're all exhausted from these past two weeks, it also feels a little like we had a vacation. We got to spend a lot of time in the wilderness. For the first time in the history of this class, we actually had a group reach Gull Rock! I was doubting whether that would ever really happen. As we finished the program today, students gathered in the atrium to present their finals, a reading of an original work of writing from the past two weeks. Every student shared, although some required a little extra push to get on stage. You all did an awesome job. Seeing students share what they've written is one of my favorite things as a teacher. Another one of my favorite things to see is a student graduating, and that's just how we got to end this program. The presentations culminated with the graduation of our own Walker, who did an awesome job in the class and on the trails. I'm excited to hear about what he does next and, if he puts the same effort into it as he did with this class, I'm sure it'll be great. Anyway, it's time for everyone to start planning their last days of summer before heading back to school. I don't know about you, but I think I'll go hiking! This is Ben Dexter signing off for Write Alaska 2012.
